Purple Audio MC77 Limiting Amplifier

Purple Audio MC 77 front view
After a brief hiatus Purple Audio is making the MC77 again. The input attenuator that was custom made for the original units and for Purple Audio by Clarostat has been discontinued. The original part was a J series T-pad attenuator with two 600O "build out" resistors to keep a constant 600O load on the source and primary of the input transformer. Clarostat changed carbon manufacturers and the new carbon manufacturer was unwilling or unable to make the part. Purple Audio took some time to find the right replacement part. Once Purple Audio tested out the replacement choice and found that it met Purple's requirements, they started making the units again. Purple Audio tried several three deck Clarostat 70 series pots in different configurations to achieve the same loading and to match the taper.

Purple Audio's MC77 is BY FAR the best way to go if you are looking for "THE 1176LN SOUND". This unit has the integrity of the CLASSIC Urei 1176LN but DOES NOT have the inconsistencies from unit to unit, the "noise" or other problems of the vintage units that are available. More importantly, the MC77 is also BY FAR the BEST new product of its type on the market today as well. This is the only one I would feel comfortable SELLING and most of all OWNING (which I do)." ~ David Marquette

The MC77 replaces the MC76 (re-engineered 1176 type FET Limiter).
After selling hundreds of the original MC76 units, Purple Audio incorporated new features based on user feedback.
