When it comes to recording drums, a good quality mic preamplifier really does make a difference. Sure, the mics are important too - but you still want to extract the best attack and power they can deliver. Whilst doubling as a good "all round" preamp for any studio environment, we've made that extra effort to ensure the SSA provides a tight and powerful drum sound. This piece is an excellent choice for kick, snare and overheads - and you won't be disappointed with the sound on vocals either. Plus, the stereo high impedance instrument inputs means the SSA can be used on all your studio sources!

The Buzz Audio SSA-1.1 is a stereo microphone and instrument preamplifier where the careful integration of Class A discrete and monolithic circuitry delivers a vibrant high definition signal path. Users can expect excellent top end clarity and tight bass punch at a very affordable price.

The mic inputs of the SSA utilize our proprietary BE40 True Class A amplifiers as used in the highly regarded MA-2.2. The low noise high speed BE40 amplifiers provide near perfect amplification of signals without slew induced and transient overload distortions. The SSA features a padless mic input with high headroom so the signal always hits the front end amps directly - perfect for those high output levels from drum microphones.

An added bonus is the high impedance instrument or pickup input - accessible from the front panel - which features a unique wide bandwith Class A FET "bootstrapped" amplifier stage which adds a big and open sound to your bass, synth and keyboard tracks.

The SSA is assembled and wired by hand using top quality through hole components (no surface mount) and certainly brings a effortless powerful sound within reach of the more budget user. The optional output transformer adds a bit more colour to the SSA preamp for those who desire the sound of iron! What more do you need from a mic pre?
